Can your eye entangle you?
Scripture reading
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
Judges 14:1-3 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines. And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife. Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
Judges 16:1 One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her.
Judges 16:1, 4-6 One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her. Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.” So Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued.”
In the texts above we learn of a great man by the name of Samson. Before his existence it was prophesied that he would save Israel from the Philistines. Samson was used mightily by the lord. Despite all Samson's strength and power, he struggled with the one thing that led to his fall...his eye
The bible says in Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
If you notice Samson's eyes led his love for women. He didn't rely on the Spirit of God to lead him, the same Spirit that gave him power. When he went to marry his 1st wife he told his parents that she pleased him. Therefore he wanted her.
Shortly after Samson goes to Gaza and sleeps with a prostitute
Finally leading to his downfall he fell in love with a lady named Delilah who he confided in leading to his downfall
What are you struggling with this day? What are you viewing through your eyes?
The bible says God gives gifts without repentance (Romans 11:29) however you can't live your life carelessly just because you have a gift that can't be taken away
1 Corinthians 10:23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.
I encourage you this day to lay aside anything in your life that would entangle you. There are some people that travel the world looking for love and bouncing from partner to partner. Only to still be empty and not happy.
But I encourage you this day that there is a better way...the way of Christ. Whosoever shall come upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Call upon the Lord today he will pick you up. There's no condemnation (Romans 8:1)
Jesus loves you so much, and he desires your success. So let's evaluate what we are looking at through our eyes
Be blessed
